Mr Nick Smith is a Consultant Specialist Knee Surgeon based at Warwick Nuffield Hospital and University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. He is widely regarded as one of the UK’s leading surgeons in complex knee surgery. He completed specialist training on the Warwick programme, followed by advanced fellowships in Exeter and Bristol, and a travelling fellowship in the USA, gaining expertise in advanced and specialist knee procedures.

His practice encompasses ACL reconstruction, meniscal surgery, cartilage restoration, osteotomy, and partial and total knee replacement. He is internationally recognised for his work in meniscal surgery, running one of the largest meniscal practices in Europe, with particular expertise in complex meniscal repair and transplantation. His clinical work is underpinned by a leading research programme, with nearly £4 million in funding and multiple high-impact clinical trials advancing modern knee surgery.

  • ACL Reconstruction

Patient Care

Nick Smith is passionate about improving clinical outcomes for patients. During his training, he completed a PhD on meniscal allograft transplantation, completing the world’s first pilot randomised controlled trial on the subject, and winning a number of awards, including the Robert Jones medal. He is a co-applicant on a multinational meniscal transplant trial, that will recruit patients from all corners of the world, in order to fully understand the treatment. He now has one of the highest volume meniscal transplantation practices in Europe, and uses this experience to perform meniscal repair surgery, including meniscal root repairs.
